Pimples and Acne Treatment

pimples and acne treatment Are you suffering from acne? Many people are depressed, obsessed and embarrassed by their acne problems. Some so bad that they are shy to seek the help of medical professionals. So they go from pharmacy to cosmetic counter, trying all kinds of expensive, over the counter medicines which may not work, or only partially resolve their acne problem. In fact, it is faster and simpler to just see your doctor, because the really effective acne medications usually need prescriptions.

One of the commonest remark I have heard from my patients is “Doctor, I wish I had come to you earlier.”

Acne is now easily treatable with the right medicine. With the right combination of medicine, creams, and procedures, we are confident of treating all forms of acne, from tiny closed comedones to angry nodules and cystic acne. With over 10 years of experience in treating acne, our doctors at TCS are able to recommend a program which will minimize side effects of acne therapy, while promoting quick results.

Please note that there are no shortcuts to acne free skin. You should be wary of any programs which promise quick results as these are often not permanent solutions.

Our acne treatment program is divided into 3 phases:

Phase 1: Calming the skin

During this phase, we will prescribe creams and possibly pills to quickly calm your acne prone skin. Once we have brought the inflammation under control, we can move on to the next stage of treatment. Lasers are also employed to tighten pores and reduce oiliness.

Phase 2: Preventing new breakouts

We will use creams and possibly pills to reduce the stickiness of the comedones, and to effectively clear pores so that new pimples will not form. This process may take 2-3 months or even longer, but the results are worth it!

Phase 3: Fixing the battleground

After we have successfully gotten the new breakouts under control, we can begin to fix the damage done by acne. This is usually done through a process of various treatments, which includes peels, creams and laser to promote scar healing, needle subcision and rarely even pills. Even acne scars that have been there for many years can be improved through our series of treatments.

Pigmented and purple scars – the first stage of acne healing is purple scars, which sometimes look as bad or worse than the pimples itself. We have a laser treatment which quickly lightens these scars to make them less visible and blend in with your skin colour.

Depressed scars – once the scars are lightened, the next stage of healing is reducing the depressions of the scars. This is successfully achieved using the latest generation fractional laser from Korea. The latest machine has much better results with less pain and lower downtime. We used to have older machines in the same generation as Pixel, Mosaic, MixTo and Fraxel Repair. However, our experience is that this new machine gives much better results than our older machine due to more configurable settings and laser beam profile. Patients will see noticeable improvement/results with each treatment, and after a few treatments, the skin becomes much smoother and less “craggy”.

Treatment of Acne in Pregnancy

A lot of ladies suffer from acne during pregnancy. This is due to the hormonal changes which make your skin oilier than before. While in some women, this added oil can give your skin a “healthy glow” in pregnancy, in many ladies, this extra oil causes outbreaks and embarrassing acne problems. There are a lot of over-the-counter and doctor-prescribed treatments which are NOT SAFE in pregnancy. These include:

✘  Roaccutane, Oratane, Nimegen, Accutane and other brands of oral isotretinoin. These are a      strict NO-NO in pregnancy, and for 3-6 months before pregnancy (i.e. don’t even touch them      while you’re trying for a baby) because they cause birth defects in the baby.
✘ Retin-A, Differin, Retinol, Retinoic Acid, Tretinoin and other topical isotretinoins. These are      not conclusively proven to be safe in pregnancy and are BEST AVOIDED.
✘ Salicylic Acid. Overuse of salicylic acid may cause placental bleeding problems in the      mother, and early closure of major blood vessels in the unborn baby. Use only with the      advice of a doctor.

Our treatment of acne in pregnant ladies and ladies trying for a baby include AHA washes, lasers, facial peels and special oil-free moisturizers to keep your pores clear, reduce and control oil and blockage and minimize new acne formation. All within a safe protocol for pregnant mothers.
